Besides authentic home surroundings and excellent wines another thing that can cause a pleasent surprise at the Štekar homestead is a great choice of real traditional meals.

 

Among dry meat products the first place goes to pršut (prosciutto) which is dried in the cristally clear air of Goriška brda for more than a year. There are also salami, dried for more months, pancete (bacon), dried for at least two years, and vratovina (a piece of pork), which has been made by the owner Roman who uses secret father's and grandad's recipes.

 

At the Štekar's homestead with soul you will enjoy in delicious traditional dishes from Brda region which are difficult to find anywhere else. The owner's wife Anuška is the one who handles the ladle with great skill and love.

 

Typical of our region are briške enolončnice (Brda 's stews), pašte in toči (sauces) and a dozen of other home-made specialities.

When was the last time you ate jota, a genuine vegetable cuisine (mineštro) in sweet-scented, home-made white bread?

 

Another dish that will be on the table is for sure frtalja (herbal omlette), not to mention cherry strudle and various pies which you can taste throughout the year. In autumn and winter seasons the cuisine will offer nut's dumplings, chesnut pie itd.

 

Marmelades, kakis and figs make many dishes taste even more delicious, whereas different juices make the home cuisine complete.
